Somehow I missed the news that iMeem.com was being acquired by MySpace back in November. This is incredibly bad news for people that enjoy listening to online music.
After a little research, it appears that iMeem was in financial difficulty even though it was a huge hit with the Internet Community.
I am disappointed. I fully understand capitalism and how the world works... but, there is a part of me that would rather see iMeem gone, than whatever POS MySpace will deliver from the ashes.
So, where does it leave us? For starters, I would guess that most of my playlists on this blog no longer work. iMeem accounts have been wiped out; however, reports are that MySpace is trying to recover the accounts and playlists. Thousand of artists will not be paid for their music due to the nature of the financial deal.
I guess it's time to find another music site...

What can I tell you that you don't already know? It's a Buffett album, but one that doesn't match the quality of the last few albums.
The Good: It seems like Buffett has finally departed from his attempt to duplicate the "It's 5 O'clock Somewhere" success. Of course, his efforts have produced some good duets and songs; however, it's time for Buffett to make the music he wants to make and not the music he thinks will get him CMT awards. Just my opinion, you actual mileage may vary.
The Bad: The album... I would put this in the category of "Beach House on the Moon". One or two songs you will like, the rest you will ignore.
Sean Daly at the TampaBay.com / St. Petersburg Times gives a less than stellar review: "Buffet Hotel: Don't Bother Checking In".
Buffett's new album is called Buffet Hotel — and no, that's not a misspelling. The Buffet Hotel is a West African musical hot spot. In rather fascinating liner notes (which are by far the best part of the album), Buffett credits this peculiar creative zone for Malian musicians as a source of his own newfound inspiration. The songs you are about to hear, he writes in a warm hand, retell his wild adventures to the far reaches of the world. Except they don't. Instead, Buffet Hotel is basically stuffed with the same crass, hackneyed ingredients he's been ho-humly regurging for years. |
It seems that a lot of PH, echo this opinion on facebook.
Props go out to Mr. Daly for actually reviewing Buffett's album without dismissing it as island anomaly among the utterly disposable rap, hip-hop, and club music released this year.
I'm a big fan of the tv show "Psych" on USA Networks. The first time I saw the show, I was less than impressed. At the urging of some my co-workers, I gave it another try with the thought that the show was more of a comedy than a crime procedural show. A couple of 80s jokes later I was hooked...
Anyway, the show returns this January and this post is just an excuse to share some of the Psych music videos.

Another year toward the bottom of the NFL football pool. I took another beating this week with losses in very close games. The Falcons lost in overtime and Detroit beat Cleveland by one point. Apparently there are some accusations of Detriot faking injuries to stop the clock / pace of the game.
It appears that my chances of catching Picklez or Screamin are all but gone.
On NFL Sundays, I've had the pleasure of watching a few games with Picklez this season and he has shared his "Manning Theory" with me on several occasions. Since I've been entertained with it, I thought I would share it with all my blog readers.
The theory is this... Eli and Peyton Manning share a common pool of football talent and only one of them can access the "talent" at a given time. If their respective teams play on different days or at different times, then everything is fine. If they play at the exact same moment, then only one of them can be successful. Being a geek, this of course reminded me of the "Marvel Family" that had to share the power of SHAZAM!. If Mary Marvel and Captain Marvel were active at the same time, then they were only half as powerful.
The point? I have no idea. I am just going to shout SHAZAM at Picklez whenever I see one of the Mannings on television.
Today, LG let me know that my Cartman covers Lady Ga Ga post made the "Entertainment is Good" page on Vox. I'm truly humbled by this accolade.... which really means.... "in your face, Picklez!"
On a serious note, I wasn't really aware of the entertainment page before now. It looks pretty cool. I will need to check it out more often.
Thanks to LG for giving me the heads-up. It doesn't make up 100% for her humiliating me each week in our NFL picks, but it comes close.
I watched a good part of the memorial ceremony from Ft. Hood yesterday and I'm still saddened by the attack. Today is Veteran's Day and I'm reminded that men and women in our armed forces put their lives on the line everyday in places like Afghanistan, Iraq, and unfortunately in small towns like Fort Hood Texas.
I know that there are a lot of people that can't comprehend the work that American Armed Forces do in Afghanistan and Iraq. To a certain degree, I can respect that opinion.
I also realize that there are Americans that believe that our country should never use force for any cause or any situation. I can understand this opinion, but I don't respect it.
Hopefully on Veteran's Day, Everyone can come together for a moment of reflection and say thanks to the men and women who died in uniform and those that serve our country with honor and distinction every single day.
It seems that everyday more and more people are removing the Obama stickers from their bumpers faster than Lindsay Lohan discards an empty gin bottle from her car window. You can’t blame them really… buyer’s remorse has set in.
Maybe these people can replace the now empty spot with this sticker…
On a more serious note - There are very few Obama bumper or window stickers on a vehicles where I work... this was not the case a year ago. Things that make you go hmmmm....
It's also worth repeating that no one will LOL if PelosiCare becomes a full epidemic case of ObamaCare.
So, I took the plunge and joined Facebook. Some of you have already made me a "friend" and I thank you.
After only a short time, the appeal of the site is apparent to me. The "wall" allows for quick twitter-ish type posts. The ability to find friends of friends is great. Facebook allows for a user to stay in touch with a lot of people everywhere. It's vastly superior to MySpace and a overall great networking tool.
I am also surprised at how "buggy" the site is with it's friend functionality. The recent activity section seems to omit "activity" at certain times. Sometimes friends are missing, but will reappear the next time I logon.
I have experienced an issue with the site every time that i have logged on. This really surprises me, given that this website has been established for many years and has millions of users.
Anyway, I'm even monitoring my Facebook IM via pidgin. Contact me if you are so inclined.
Later
I have watched this clip from South Park over and over again. It just keeps getting funnier. So, I present to you Cartman singing Lady Gaga's Poker Face. It's South Park, so expect NSFW language.
